For each visitor to our site, our Web server automatically recognizes the consumer’s domain name, but not their e-mail address. We collect this information in our server logs and analyze the logs internally. We do not track domain names back to individuals and we do not store information in our server logs that would allow us to identify visitors to our site.
If you use our secure online server to order a book, we ask that you submit the minimal amount of information needed to process the order: your name, mailing address, telephone number, credit card number, and e-mail address. This information is never stored in clear text on our server, but is encrypted and forwarded immediately to the University of Chicago Distribution Center where your order is filled.
If you use our online shopping cart to submit an order for a book, we will set a cookie in your Web browser that stores the contents of your shopping cart. After the order is submitted, we delete the cookie. If you do not submit the order, the cookie will be deleted when you close your browser. We do not use cookies to track the pages you view or the number of times you visit our site or in any other way except to store temporarily the contents of your shopping cart.
Unless you instruct us otherwise when you submit an order using our secure online server, we will add your name and mailing address (but not your e-mail address or telephone number) to our mailing lists. From time to time, you may receive catalogs from us that describe books in areas related to titles you have purchased from us. If you do not want to receive mailings from us, please let us know by writing to the e-mail or postal address listed above. If you have not ordered from us but would like to receive our seasonal catalogs, you may request them here .
If you submit your e-mail address or telephone number to us in the course of ordering through our secure online server, we will only use this data to contact you should there be a question about your order or to invite you to opt-in to UNDPe-news, our electronic newsletter. You will receive UNDPe-news only if you opt-in, which you can do here. If you decide you no longer want to receive UNDPe-news, please let us know by sending an e-mail to the address above. If you contact us by post, be sure to include your e-mail address in your request.
