Our first stop is the Main Building. The iconic Golden Dome is being regilded for the first time in almost twenty years! The University of Notre Dame: A History has the dome proudly on its cover and is a great book to start our tour—it’s the most complete and up-to-date university history.
Next stop is the stadium. Originally built in 1930, it’s been expanded to hold over eighty thousand fans! Football Weekends at Notre Dame: Snapshots and Traditions tells the gameday story with color photographs and personal context rich in the traditions, values, and spirit that make Notre Dame unique.
Now we head over to the Log Chapel. This chapel is a recreation of the original building from 1831. It’s still regularly used for mass! The Log Chapel is featured in The Chapels of Notre Dame alongside places of worship all over campus, from academic buildings to residence halls.
Next is one of the most stunning buildings on campus, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The basilica contains one of the largest collections of late nineteenth-century stained glass outside of France. Our final stop on the tour is the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Built in 1896, it’s a one-seventh replica of the famous French shrine. You can see beautiful photos of the Grotto as well as every stop on our tour in the stunning photography of This Place Called Notre Dame.
