Realizing the Distinctive University

In Realizing the Distinctive University: Vision and Values, Strategy and Culture, Mark Roche changes the terms of the debate about American higher education. A former dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, Roche argues for the importance of an institutional vision, not simply a brand, and while he extols the value of entrepreneurship, he defines it in contrast to the corporate drive toward commercialization and demands for business management models. Mark William Roche is the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Professor of German Language and Literature and concurrent professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of a number of books, including _Why Choose the Liberal Arts? _ (2010) and T_he Intellectual Appeal of Catholicism and the Idea of a Catholic University_ (2003), both published by the University of Notre Dame Press.
