Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s March 1917 available in English translation

The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. In celebration of this important milestone and in honor of the 100th anniversary of Nobel Prize–winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s birth in 2018, the University of Notre Dame Press is proud to publish the first English translation of Solzhenitsyn’s epic work March 1917, Node III, Book 1, of The Red Wheel. This major literary event brings to readers, admirers, and scholars Solzhenitsyn’s historical novel that covers five days during the Russian Revolution. The book is translated by Marian Schwartz, a National Endowment for the Arts prize-winning translator of Russian literature.

March 1917 is the first book to be released in The Center for Ethics and Culture Solzhenitsyn Series.

Early reviews for the book in The Guardian, The New Criterion, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation blog by James Pontuso, and Law and Liberty have been uniformly strong, calling The Red Wheel, “one of the masterpieces of world literature” and “a worthy companion of Dostoevsky and rival of Tolstoy."
