American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature 2020 Annual Meeting

Welcome to our virtual exhibit! We are extremely excited to bring our religion and theology books directly to your screen! Enjoy browsing our recent titles, and peek into our Religion and Theology catalog for more great finds. From the theology of David Bentley Hart to the study of married Catholic priests, we have the book for you.

From the desk of Stephen Little, Acquisitions Editor:

Dear friends and colleagues,

It’s with mixed feelings that I write this in the wake of the canceling of the 2020 Annual Meetings, hosted by the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature. On the one hand, I've always enjoyed attending these conferences on behalf of the UND Press, both for the intellectual richness and for the collegial fellowship that I find there. On the other hand, I applaud the prudence and decisiveness of the conference organizers for making the right call and helping to preserve our health and wellbeing during this time of risk. Hopefully we will all see each other again in San Antonio next year!

This year, I'm particularly excited to present David Bentley Hart's newest book, Theological Territories: A David Bentley Hart Digest. This volume serves as Hart's manifesto for how theology should engage other disciplines. I'm also proud of SherAli Tareen’s excellent volume, Defending Muhammad in Modernity, which pulls back the curtain on how competing political theologies have created the present condition for Islam. And James Bernauer's Jesuit Kaddish: Jesuits, Jews, and Holocaust Remembrance traces the sometimes fruitful, frequently problematic, approaches that the Society of Jesus has taken towards Jewish communities and individuals.

If you are working on a project that you think might be of interest to us, I encourage you to drop me a line at slittle2@nd.edu. I particularly welcome projects that explore the interplay between Christianity, Islam, and secularism; or which focus on Christianity outside of the Euro-American world.

Stay healthy, my friends!
