Dear readers, scholars, and partners,
As we all cope with the impact of COVID-19, we know many of you face the difficulty of coping with a crisis while also being encouraged to continue “business as usual” through remote work, research, and teaching.
Our first and foremost priority is the safety and well-being of our staff, authors, readers, and community. Our staff will be working remotely over the coming weeks, and we are canceling our upcoming business travel. Like so many of our scholars, our editors are both relieved and devastated by recent conference cancellations. If you are working on a project that you wanted to discuss with one of our editors, please connect with us.
We encourage our authors to reconsider any book events according to the CDC’s guidelines, and we support their decisions about what is best for them and their community. We ask for your patience (and offer you the same) as we adjust to new environments and put our families and our health first.
We are also deeply dedicated to our book community. The economic impact of this pandemic will be particularly cruel to your local retailers. In particular, we urge you to support your local bookstore. Many local bookstores offer opportunities to shop online or are offering drive up services during the outbreak. You can also purchase a gift card or make a donation to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation.
We are grateful for your support of university presses and academic publishing. In this time of uncertainty, we remain committed to the power of research to impact and enrich lives. We will continue to update you as the situation develops.
Sincerely,
Steve Wrinn
