As part of the University of Notre Dame Press’s commitment to fostering the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and readers, the Press is pleased to announce the launch of the First-Time Author Fund.
First-time academic authors often lack the funding and support provided to tenured faculty and do not have an established network, making outreach and advertising more difficult. This new fund will underwrite the publication and promotion of a first book by a promising scholar each year to ensure these important ideas and voices reach readers.
“Aside from their core mission to publish vital scholarship, university presses have always played a central role in academic professional development and advancement, particularly in the humanities and social sciences,” said Director Steve Wrinn. “This new fund will allow Notre Dame Press to continue and hopefully expand its support of first-time authors despite the increased financial challenges confronting scholarly publishing.”
Gifts to the First-Time Author Fund will promote fresh and exciting ideas in the academic community and help propel new scholars forward in their career. All donations made to the Press during the 2020 Notre Dame Day fundraising drive will support this new fund.
