On Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:00am, Thomas E. Blantz, C.S.C., will sign copies of his book The University of Notre Dame: A History, at the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore. This popular book is written for a broad readership, and will be of special interest to alumni, faculty, students, friends of the university, and fans of the Fighting Irish.
Blantz tells the story of the renowned Catholic university’s growth and development from a primitive grade school and high school founded in 1842 by the Congregation of Holy Cross to the acclaimed undergraduate and research institution it became by the early twenty-first century. Simultaneously detailed and documented yet lively and interesting, The University of Notre Dame: A History is the most complete and up-to-date history of the university available.
This book details the leadership of several faculty and staff members of the university, including French priest and visionary founder Father Edward Sorin, two-term Notre Dame president Father William Corby, successful chemistry teacher and football coach Knute Rockne, who elevated Notre Dame to national athletic prominence, and Father Theodore M. Hesburgh, who was president of the university for thirty-five years.
Thomas E. Blantz, C.S.C., is professor emeritus of history at the University of Notre Dame and a Holy Cross Priest. He is the author of George N. Shuster: On the Side of Truth (1993) and A Priest in Public Service: Francis J. Haas and the New Deal (1982), both published by the University of Notre Dame Press.
The book signing is free and open to the public. Blantz will be available to sign books at the Hammes Bookstore on:
- Sat. September 18, 9:30am-11am
- Sat., October 2, 9:30am-11am
Father Blantz is available for interviews.
