The University of Notre Dame Press is pleased to announce our annual Notre Dame Press Book Festival and Book Sale will take place on November 15–16, 2022, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST, in the Hesburgh Library Concourse. Every year, students, faculty, and community members flock to the Book Festival and Book Sale to peruse and purchase paperback and hardback books at exceptionally low prices. Offerings include a huge selection of overstock and damaged books at $5 paperback and $7 hardback, new and recent titles at a 40% discount, autographed books, and prizes.
Book Festival and Book Sale Events
This year, we are proud to present David Bentley Hart on Grace with Jennifer Newsome Martin. This event, co-hosted with the Department of Theology at University of Notre Dame, will take place November 16th, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Hesburgh Library Scholars Lounge. Hart’s most recent book, You Are Gods: On Nature and Supernature (Notre Dame Press, 2022), has been widely discussed and reviewed in the media. Martin’s book, Hans Urs von Balthasar and the Critical Appropriation of Russian Religious Thought (Notre Dame Press, 2015), received The Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise.
The other program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in learning more about the book publishing industry. The Ins and Outs of Academic Publishing: A Conversation with Notre Dame Press Staff, will take place on November 15th, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Hesburgh Library Scholars Lounge. This session will focus on material adapted from the Press’s highly successful Publishing Boot Camp, which enabled graduate students to explore career options beyond the faculty track in scholarly publishing.
University Press Week
The Book Festival and Book Sale will take place during University Press Week, an annual event that highlights the dedicated work performed by those in the university press community. This year, in addition to the usual blog tour, Notre Dame Press will host the traveling exhibition of the 2022 AUPresses Book, Jacket, and Journal Show. Of the nearly 500 books and covers submitted for the juried competition, just 91 were selected as winners in the following categories:
- Scholarly illustrated books
- Trade typographic books
- Trade illustrated books
- Poetry and literature books
- Reference books
- Journals
- Jackets and covers (of books and journals)
The winning submissions will be showcased on the first floor of Hesburgh Library from November 7th through the 18th. This event will particularly interest students and faculty of design, marketing, and history of the book.
All Notre Dame Press Book Festival and Book Sale events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact: Kathryn Pitts, pitts.5@nd.edu, 574.631.3267.
