The University of Notre Dame Press is committed to fostering the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and readers. We publish academic and general interest books that engage the most enduring questions of our time in areas that align with the academic strengths of the university. We are also proud to serve the academic community by helping first-time authors publish their work.
In 2020, we launched the First-Time Author Fund with the intent of helping early-career scholars get their start. First-time academic authors often lack the funding and support provided to tenured faculty and do not have an established network, making outreach and advertising more difficult.
Now, after several years of fundraising, we are proud to name Oluwatomisin Olayinka Oredein the inaugural recipient of the Notre Dame Press First-Time Author Award for her forthcoming book, The Theology of Mercy Amba Oduyoye: Ecumenism, Feminism, and Communal Practice.
This award includes an honorarium to support the first-time author’s research, professional development, or promotion of their book and a subsidy to underwrite the press’s costs in producing and promoting the work. Moving forward, the University of Notre Dame Press will present the First-Time Author Award to a promising scholar each year, demonstrating our commitment to early-career scholars and the critical impact they have on their fields.
The First-Time Author Award is made possible thanks to the generous donations of Notre Dame Press readers, authors, and staff. Your support has directly led to the publication of field-shaping (and hopefully career-launching!) books, and we are incredibly grateful.
You can continue to support these early career scholars by learning how to partner with the press on our support page or donating to Notre Dame Press on Notre Dame Day. Go Irish!
