Some highlights and campus partnerships include:
- Tomáš Halík’s book, The Afternoon of Christianity: The Courage to Change, provides a poignant reflection on Christianity’s crisis of faith while offering a vision of the self-reflection, love, and growth necessary for the church to overcome and build a deeper and more mature faith.
- In Santa Tarantula, the latest winner of the Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize, Cuban-American poet Jordan Peréz explores the tension between fear and reprieve, between hopelessness and light, granting an urgent and haunting voice to the voiceless, exploring ancient narratives, delving into Cuban history and identity, and confronting trauma and violence.
- City and Campus: An Architectural History of South Bend, Notre Dame, and Saint Mary’s, by John W. Stamper, paints a narrative portrait of South Bend and the campuses of the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College from their founding and earliest settlement in the 1830s through the boom of the roaring ’20s
- In The Catholic Case Against War: A Brief Guide, political scientist David Carroll Cochran draws on years of Vatican documents and papal statements to present the key elements of the Church’s case against war.
- Two new titles will be published in the Liu Institute Series in Chinese Christianities. Christopher Payk’s Following Christ and Confucius: Wang Mingdao and Chinese Christianity offers the first full-length critical biography and theological analysis of Wang Mingdao, the spiritual father of China’s House Church Movement. Jonathan A. Seitz’s Protestant Missionaries in China: Robert Morrison and Early Sinology evaluates the role of nineteenth-century British missionaries in the early development of the cross-cultural relationship between China and the English-speaking world.
- Mun’im Sirry’s Youth, Education, and Islamic Radicalism Religious Intolerance in Contemporary Indonesia is part of the Contending Modernities series. This monograph offers a groundbreaking analysis of religious intolerance and radicalization among high school and university students in modern-day Indonesia.
- Two new books are forthcoming in the Kellogg Institute Series on Democracy and Development. Kathleen Bruhn’s Politics and the Pink Tide: A Comparative Analysis of Protest in Latin America investigates the ways in which protest varied across five Latin American countries that elected leftist presidents during the Pink Tide. Meanwhile, Democratic Quality in Southern Europe France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, edited by Tiago Fernandes, draws together a collection of essays that look beyond the impact of socioeconomic development in these five countries, exploring innovative and nuanced explanations for their diverging paths.
- Petrarch’s Penitential Psalms and Prayers, edited and translated by Demetrio S. Yocum is the newest title in the William and Katherine Devers Series in Dante and Medieval Italian Literature. This book offers the first English translation of Petrarch’s Psalms and Prayers, providing an intimate look at the personal devotions of the “Father of Humanism.”
