About the First-Time Author Fund
The University of Notre Dame Press believes in the power of books to change the world by advancing knowledge and impacting lives. By donating to the First-Time Author Fund, you can join us in connecting the research, insights, and expertise of early-career scholars with the world, while expanding the reach, impact, and reputation of the University of Notre Dame. Your support encourages and sustains intellectual innovation and fosters the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and readers.
The First-Time Author Fund helps underwrite the publication of a first book by a promising scholar each year and provides an award directly to the author to aid their scholarship, professional development, or the promotion of the book. First-time academic authors typically lack the funding and support provided to tenured faculty and do not have an established audience, making outreach and advertising more difficult. Gifts to the First-Time Author Fund promote fresh and exciting ideas in the academic community and help propel new scholars forward in their career.
The First-Time Author Fund is especially close to our hearts, with nearly 70% of our team donating to support these early career scholars. With your support for these field-shaping (and hopefully career-launching) books, we eagerly look forward to announcing the third recipient of the award this spring.

“Working with everyone at Notre Dame Press ensured that I was able to create a book I am not only proud of, but that ensures African women’s theology will have continuing reach and rich presence in Christian theological discourse. Notre Dame Press has created an opportunity for my work to make a lasting impact, and for this I am thankful!”
—Oluwatomisin Olayinka Oredein, author of The Theology of Mercy Amba Oduyoye
“I’m honored to have published with Notre Dame Press, but, more than that, working with Notre Dame Press was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The great people at the press made every step of the process as smooth as possible. They were incredibly supportive, responsive, and professional. I will always be grateful to Notre Dame Press for publishing my first book!”
—Daniel Mark, author of The Nature of Law
