75th Annual Convention of the Catholic Theological Society of America
Welcome to our virtual exhibit! CTSA 2020 has been canceled, but spreading knowledge is now more important than ever. Since we still have many books we want to share with you, we are thrilled to bring our religion and theology exhibit to you!
From the desk of Stephen Little, Acquisitions Editor:
It’s with mixed feelings that I write this in the wake of the canceling of the 2020 Catholic Theological Society of America annual meeting. On the one hand, I've always enjoyed attending these conferences on behalf of the UND Press, both for the intellectual richness and for the collegial fellowship that I find there. On the other hand, I applaud the prudence and decisiveness of the CTSA organizers for making the right call and helping to preserve our health and wellbeing during this time of risk. Hopefully we will all see each other again in Portland, OR, next year!
This year, I'm particularly excited to present David Bentley Hart's newest book, Theological Territories: A David Bentley Hart Digest. This volume serves as Hart's manifesto for how theology should engage other disciplines. I'm also proud of Aaron Pidel's Church of the Ever Greater God: The Ecclesiology of Erich Przywara; alongside 2019's Erich Przywara and Postmodern Natural Law: A History of the Metaphysics of Morals, by Graham McAleer, Pidel's volume marks a new phase in Ressourcement studies as greater attention is paid to Przywara, a theological giant who influenced both Hans Urs von Balthasar and Karl Barth. And James Bernauer's Jesuit Kaddish: Jesuits, Jews, and Holocaust Remembrance traces the sometimes fruitful, frequently problematic, approaches that the Society of Jesus has taken towards Jewish communities and individuals.
As these and the other books on our list indicate, Catholic theology, far from being isolated in the Ivory Tower, holds a unique potential for creating real-world impacts. It bridges the practical with the eternal, the mundane with the eschatological, Our Father in heaven with our daily bread. If you are working on a project that you think might be of interest to us, I encourage you to drop me a line at email@example.com. In addition to our longtime publication lists in Neo-Thomism and the Ressourcement, I welcome in particular proposals in Catholic theology that engage gender issues, especially Intersexuality, or seek to bridge the ideological divides that cut across our nation and our Church.
